Christmas

Picture this: The silver’s polished, the napkins are folded into something that looks vaguely like a ship, and the kitchen is buzzing with the sort of excitement usually reserved for FA Cup finals. Welcome to The Upton’s Captain’s Fine Dining Night—a 6-course banquet where “lushery” isn’t just a typo, it’s a lifestyle.

Last Saturday: Our First Captain’s Night—A Smash Hit!
If you missed it, you missed out. Last Saturday was our very first Captain’s Fine Dining Night, and honestly, it was an absolute triumph. The plates came back cleaner than my conscience after a week of salad, and the laughter from the dining room could be heard all the way to the car park.

The team pulled together like a well-oiled (and well-fed) machine, and I may or may not have shed a little tear of pride—purely from the onions, of course.

Why Captain’s table?
Because sometimes you need to show off. And because there’s nothing quite like herding a team of chefs (and the odd rogue waiter) into orchestrating a culinary voyage through the best local ingredients Somerset and Devon can offer. Think of it as a love letter to the region, written in sauce and served on a plate.

Local Ingredients, Local Legends

We’ve raided the larders of our favourite local suppliers (cheers, Ruby & White, and the seafood wizards down the road) to bring you a menu that’s more British than a drizzle at Wimbledon. Every course is a celebration of what’s in season, what’s nearby, and what makes us proud to call this patch of countryside home.

The Menu changes each month but is always 6 courses, wow prevous menu on the 5th of July as below, yummy

We start with an Aperitif of Suze, a classical French Aperitif which dates back 100 years

The first course
Rhubarb Beetroot Soup

The second course
Feta ,Rocket ,Watermelon salad

The third course
Home made bacon, served with a Mushroom Sauce

The fourth course
Scallops in a champagne sauce

All Cooked by Me, Julian (Yes, Really)

Forget TV chefs with their fancy hair and suspiciously clean aprons. This is the real deal: me, sleeves rolled up, leading the charge in The Upton’s kitchen. There will be flour on the floor, laughter in the air, and the odd “taste test” (for quality control, you understand).

The Team: Excited, Inspired, and Slightly Terrified
Our crew has been working harder than a pub dog on Sunday lunch. They’re excited, they’re inspired, and they’re ready to serve up a night you’ll be talking about until next year’s Captain’s Banquet (when we’ll do it all again, but with even shinier cutlery).
